Under glorious blue skies riders and parents enjoyed a day of equestrian excitement at the annual Foxcroft Equestrian
Centre Victoria Day horse show. The competition began with the most experienced riders in the Combined Training division
(a sort of equestrian triathlon). They were judged on the accuracy and balance they can produce with their mount in the
dressage test. Then, switching gears the same horse-rider combinations must perform with speed and agility over
stadium and cross-country jumps.
Winner of the Entry level Combined Training class was Melissa Croft of Waterdown riding "Denver". A close second place
finish was Nicholas St. Pierre of Millgrove riding his small, but speedy pony "Kizzie". Older brother Patrick St. Pierre
won the next Combined Training class on his new mount, the 6-year old quarter-horse gelding, "Windsor". Lauren Johnson
of Waterdown was in close pursuit on the flashy pinto "Atlanta".
Meanwhile in the main ring, Foxcroft's younger students began the show by show-casing their grooming and braiding skills in the
turn-out division.
In the Novice 1 division for riders in their second year of riding, the Champion was Monica Greenwood of Freelton riding the black
Canadian mare "Xabelle". Jessica Hussey of Waterdown had a first place finish in "Equitation on the Flat" riding the
quarter-horse gelding "Hudson", while Cecilia Creighton of Waterdown rode the appaloosa Toledo to a win in the "Equitation over poles".
In the Beginner division for first year riders, Ashlen Boyd of Waterdown took home the Championship trophy. Jessie Crossing,
also of Waterdown took a third place in the Command class riding the popular gray pony "Penzance". Kaitlin Petkovich won the
"Equitation over poles". Kendra Gaspar and Jacqueline Prior, both of Carlisle had strong finishes in the Equitation classes.
In the Novice 2 division Allysanne Lord of Carlisle won "Equitation over Fences" with the gray trakehner mare "Pikeao". In
Novice 3, Olivia Bergasse of Freelton won the "Nakorro" Championship trophy riding the handsome gelding "Hektor". Reserve
champion was Laura Elliott of Millgrove riding the chestnut mare "Sierra". Jamie Kazienko of Waterdown finished strongly
in "Equitation on the Flat" riding "Miami".
Marvin Gardens provided colourful pots of flowers to decorate the rings and jumps. Wellington Tack of Dundas sponsored prizes for
all classes.
